『柳』和『落葉』在日本花火分類來說屬於POKA類，源自花火玉在天空破裂時，球殼會裂分成兩半，並發出BOKA的聲音，故以此命名。POKA屬於小割物花火，特徵是球殼的貼皮層數很少，內含的割藥也稀少，當彈體開裂時沒有強大的開爆力道，而是產生熊熊火焰點燃藥珠。
『柳』和『落葉』，不會以單發的姿態而獨秀。每當施放時都會以瞬間極大量或多波次的推進，創造出數大為美的氣勢。在節目的設計編排上，大多使用於氣氛轉折、情感鋪陳、歌曲轉換等較為柔情的氛圍中。
柳
當花火玉破裂時，線條呈現有如垂掛在空中的柳樹枝、隨風飄飄，又像從天空傾瀉的瀑布、綿綿流水，其形狀又恰似駿馬的棕尾。所以『柳』、『瀑布』、『馬尾』都是這種花火的名稱。
傳統的『柳』使用赤橙色的和火製成，在加入明亮色的原料後隨即創作出金黃色的『金柳』與銀白色的『銀柳』，也使用各色大理花或閃類的藥珠，製作出各種色彩的『色柳』『閃柳』。

『落葉』是將有色火藥塗滿在和紙的四角上後，裝入彈體，較一般花火玉的重量輕盈。其特色像枚色彩鮮豔的樹葉飄落凡間。『落葉』的效果時間很長，加上鮮豔的色彩，恰似染色髮絲的少女漫步於雲端。
